Haggai (page 1443 in my Bible… 😉 tells us:

In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua [ A variant of Jeshua; here and elsewhere in Haggai ] son of Jehozadak, the high priest:
This is what the LORD Almighty says: These people say, The time has not yet come for the LORD’s house to be built.’
Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai:
Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses, while this house remains a ruin?
Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: Give careful thought to your ways.
You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.
This is what the LORD Almighty says: Give careful thought to your ways.
Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honoured, says the LORD.
You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why? declares the LORD Almighty. Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.
Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops.
CONSIDER your ways says the Lord (verses 1.5 and 1.7)
It is a time to align to the Lord. It is time to get ready. It is time to focus on Him and Him alone. When we raise our eyes and gaze upon His beauty, then all other things vanish. He is our great reward, He is our sustainer.
We have sown a lot and brought in little.
We have eaten, but yet our stomachs were still empty: the food of this age does not satisfy, it only creates a new hole which demands in it turn more food: more medias, more social activities, more, more, more…
You drink but you are not filled with drink: where is the water that quenches? where are the flowing rivers which refresh our inner beings? He is the WATER OF LIFE: JESUS the Son of God!
We spend money on our appearance (clothing, makeup, creams, haircuts, dyes,…) and yet we are cold, we are left empty inside, nothing to warm up our soul, body and mind. Nothing to comfort us, no one to take care of us. Yet he clothes us in garments of righteous of pure white linen. He takes care of us, His salvation is now ours.
The money we earn is soon spent. It vanishes and disappears as a vapor. We try to stack but soon the worms are there to eat the little we are able to put aside.
Let’s work for thus which satisfies the soul: everlasting life! Great rewards await those who diligently seek the Lord in prayer and fast in the secret of their intimate life with Jesus.
Jesus is my rewarder!
WHY??? WHY??? WHY??? WHY??? WHY??? WHY??? WHY???
Because of the HOUSE OF THE LORD.
The question is simple. The answer is even simpler!
No one is interested in the House of the Lord. Everyone is interested in his own house!
Haggai 1.6 tells us what to do:
1. Go up to the mountain: let’s make God and our relationship with Him our ultimate goal!
2. Bring wood: let’s work for his house but first of all let’s pray, let’s give him what he gives us! Let’s take his word (wood) and bring it to Him (prayer)
3. Let’s then build the House: After having been up the mountain and after having met the Lord and using HIS materials!
4. HE promises to take pleasure in His house. He delights being in us! He delights dwelling in us! Holy Spirit come!
5. HE will be glorified! Because he brought us up the mountain, he gave us the wood, he helped us build His House.
Thank you Jesus!
